Delhi Technological University (DTU) was originally established as Delhi Polytechnic in 1941 to meet the needs of Indian industries for trained technical manpower with practical experience and sound theoretical knowledge. The institution was set up at the historic Kashmere Gate campus following the Wood and Abott Committee recommendations of 1938. In 1952, it became affiliated with the University of Delhi and began formal degree-level programs as Delhi College of Engineering (DCE). In July 2009, it became Delhi Technological University through the Delhi Act 6 of 2009.
DTU is committed to achieving global standards of excellence in Science, Technology, Management and allied areas through cutting-edge research, education and innovation. The university aims to produce highly skilled technocrats, develop new knowledge bases for research, foster academia-industry relations, and establish centres of excellence in emerging fields. DTU has over 84 years of tradition in engineering and technology education, research and innovations. It is the mother institution of several national projects, including IIT Delhi, School of Planning and Architecture, and the Faculty of Management Studies of the University of Delhi.
DTU offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, management, and allied areas. The university relocated from its Kashmere Gate campus in 1996 to a sprawling 164-acre campus at Bawana Road, Rohini, Delhi.
